A Whisper of Peace by Kim Vogel Sawyer

A Whisper of Peace
By Kim Vogel Sawyer
Published by Thomas Nelson

A Whisper of Peace is the story of a young missionary who yearns to lead like his father and two very different young women burdened by a similar need for forgiveness and redemption.

Clay Selby and his stepsister Vivian are determined to bring the Good News to the Athabascan people of Alaska and teach them to read and write. While they both knew their undertaking would require a great deal of hard work and sacrifice, neither could have anticipated the difficult choice they would be faced with after befriending an ostracized native.

Lizzie Dawson is strong and courageous. Having lived on her own since her mama passed, Lizzie has worked toward a single purpose: gain the forgiveness of her grandmother and grandfather so her mama can rest in peace and then move to San Francisco to be with her father. This was the last wish of her mama before she died. But when Lizzie begins to spend time with Vivian and Clay her heart betrays her with a longing to stay.

Clay and Vivian are determined not to turn their backs on Lizzie, even when the tribal leaders demand they give an oath to never see her again. How can they choose between saving the souls of many over saving the soul of one, even if the one is so clearly in need? As a lethal illness begins to sweep through the village, time begins to quickly run out, and they will all be forced to make decisions that will change their lives forever.

A missionary adventure, A Whisper of Peace is a story of revelation and forgiveness. Our human nature is so strong that we often don’t see the forest through the trees. Vogel Sawyer is adept at bringing the fragility and inner workings of her characters to light and allowing us to grow right along with them.

I received this book free from Bethany House Publishers as part of their book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
