Book two in the Kentucky Brothers series The Healing begins where The Journey left off. Titus’ brother Samuel Fisher is grieving the loss of his wife Elsie and their unborn child. After struggling to get past his anguish, Samuel decides to take Titus’ advice and move with his four children to Kentucky where he won’t face the constant reminders of his loss.

When Esther Beiler’s brother Dan is diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, her parents make the decision to sell their store and move back to Pennsylvania. Esther loves her family but considers Kentucky her home. With the shop now under new ownership, Esther needs to find a new job and is delighted when Titus asks her to become a caregiver for Samuel’s children. Although Samuel is deep in mourning, Esther is quickly taken with the children and hopes to help them begin the healing process.

Bonnie Taylor is ready for a new adventure. Having been left her grandparents home in her grandmothers will, she decides it’s time to make a fresh start, and a new bed-and-breakfast is just what the town needs. As “luck” would have it, Allen Walters a local contractor has been able to introduce Bonnie to Samuel and several other local workers who are able to help her restore her grandparents old home. Bonnie also meets Esther who agrees to teach her how to cook and work part time at the B&B when she’s not caring for Samuel’s children.

As time goes by and Samuel and the children begin to acclimate to their new life, simple pleasures lift their spirits once more. Esther is such a big part of their lives that a deep caring begins to form between them all. Yet Samuel is conflicted between his growing feelings for Esther and his promise to Elsie never to love any other.

At the same time, Allen’s growing attraction to Bonnie has her spooked. There are deeply held secrets that Bonnie has kept hidden that keep her from allowing herself to become too close to another man. Despite her fondness for Allen, she pushes him away; convinced that no man could ever accept her if they knew about her past.

Wanda Brunstetter has created her most expansive family drama to date with the Kentucky Brothers series. With so many relatable characters and scenarios, I can’t help but be deeply drawn into their stories, yearning for their healing and redemption right along with them. Having read at least fifteen of Brunstetters other works of fiction and non-fiction alike, I can honestly say that The Healing is my favorite so far and I don’t know how I’ll manage to wait a whole year before the next book in this series is released!
