A Rush of Wings By Kristen Heitzmann

A Rush of Wings

Nearly paralyzed with fear, Noelle St. Claire escapes the only world she has ever known. With little more than the clothes on her back, Noelle disappears into the Rocky Mountains, renting a room at the Spencer horse ranch where she hopes to blend in and make a new life for herself.

Of the two Spencer brothers, Morgan Spencer is immediately taken with Noelle, her aloof manner tantalizing and her stunning beauty intoxicating. Exuberant and confident, Morgan is determined to have Noelle. Noelle however, isn’t one to be had. Her desperate need to maintain control and her fight or flight response to his simplest advances warm him to this frightened woman and endear her to him. But the ranch is not his home, and soon work calls him away.

Rick Spenser is devout, strong and compassionate. Having built this ranch with his own two hands, he takes pride in working the land and training his horses. The last thing he needs is a willful woman coming in and pushing every boundary he has set. Yet even in her bravado, Rick can sense her brokenness and when an aggravation fueled reprimand sends her into a frenzied panic that nearly costs her her life, Rick is irrevocably drawn to her fragility; yearning to care for and protect her.

Soon a bond is forged between the vulnerable runaway and the steadfast rancher. But when fragments of her past begin to overwhelm her sensibility, and the monster who provoked her exodus surfaces to repossess her, darkness threatens to destroy them all.

Captivating and suspenseful, A Rush of Wings kept me enthralled from start to finish. Kristen Heitzmann is a masterful storyteller, seamlessly weaving a patchwork of mystery around superbly developed characters.

I received this book free from Bethany House Publishers as part of their book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
