Within My Heart
By Tamera Alexander
Published by Bethany House
Deep in the heart of the Colorado Rockies, life unfolds for better or worse for the residents of Timber Ridge. Times were hard, and life – both demanding and unforgiving – waited on no man. With deeply scarred pasts, people made the best of what they had; focused solely on survival and protecting their best interests.
Rachel Boyd, widowed mother of two and ranch owner has her hands full. Between tending to the never ending chores at the ranch, helping to care for her dear but ailing friend, and her more than precocious youngest son’s antics, its all she can do to maintain control of her closely guarded life. Yet when Rand Brookston becomes irrevocably entwined in all their lives, Rachel comes to realize that she is losing her stalwart battle.
Rand Brookston knew moving to a small town would have its share of challenges. Trust was something that had to be earned, and he held no resentment of that fact. The people of Timber Ridge were warming to him, and rand believed that with time, the trust he yearned for would be merited. If only Rachel Boyd would be willing to give him the chance that so many of the town’s folk had already done. What he wouldn’t give to work alongside her and share something more than what she begrudgingly allowed.
Small towns have a funny way of either driving people closer together or ripping them apart. Timber Ridge is no exception. Through heartbreaking tragedy, plights that can only be survived with the support of others, and fears that threaten to be the undoing of your soul; life somehow continues. It’s what you do with the brief time you have, that gives character to those brave enough to persevere.
Within My Heart is an incredibly poignant novel of such depth and vulnerability; one cannot help but feel every stirring of emotion of its beloved characters. Tamera Alexander is a masterful storyteller, filling every page with life lessons that will not soon be forgotten. While this is the first novel I have read by Alexander, I plan on ordering every book that is currently available by days end, and will look forward to reading every book she releases in the future. I simply cannot recommend this novel more highly.
I received this book free from Bethany House Publishers as part of their book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
