Sixteen Brides
By Stephanie Grace Whitson
Published by Bethany House
When sixteen unsuspecting widows set off with hopes of acquiring free land in Nebraska and a fresh new beginning, they never would have guessed they were actually being trumpeted as ready brides. After catching wind of their “guides” devious plans, half the women decide to jump train and setup their own homestead in the small town of Plum
Grove without the need of any men thank you very much!
Of course starting a new life out in the middle of nowhere is not quite as easy as one would imagine, and depending on the help of strangers is sometimes required. Through hard work and determination, these strong, independent women learn about the land, how to create a home of their own, and to never lose hope.
The first third of the book was very daunting with sixteen women and numerous other main characters being introduced; I often found myself confused about who was who. Yet, if you can soldier on and stick with it, you will be richly rewarded. Within the pages of Sixteen Brides there are powerful stories of forgiveness, purpose and a true sense of God’s plan in our lives… even through circumstances that appear to be hopeless.
I received this book free from Bethany House Publishers as part of their book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
